About The Friends

The church, a Grade I listed building, is predominantly Norman but with some earlier Saxon work and was renovated in the 19th century after falling into disrepair. With a church of this age there is the ongoing battle against damp especially on the South and West sides exposed to the prevailing weather.

All funding for the maintenance of the building is by way of The Friends of St Nicolas. The funds for the Friends come from a variety of social events organised by the Social & Publicity Committee as well as donations.

We are hoping to set up a newsletter and perhaps special events for supporters of the church.  If you would like to be kept in touch with the work of the Friends of St Nicolas, please let us know via the response form.

St Nicolas' church is a much-loved landmark which has been an attractive element in the landscape of Old Shoreham for well over a thousand years.  Anyone who has a fondness for this beautiful ancient church and who wishes to preserve this important part of our local heritage is invited to support the fund
